BankDeMark Editorial Standards
How this site’s finance content is researched, sourced, reviewed and corrected — and what it deliberately does not do.
Last reviewed: 9 August 2026What BankDeMark publishes, and what it is not
BankDeMark publishes educational reference material about personal finance, business credit, investing, banking, debt management and financial independence, plus a set of calculators that model those topics arithmetically.
BankDeMark is not a licensed financial advisor, investment dealer, tax preparer, accountant, credit counsellor or law firm, and does not hold registration in any jurisdiction to act as one. Nothing published here is personalised financial, investment, tax, legal or credit advice, and no reader relationship creates a fiduciary duty. See the full financial disclaimer.
Who writes this content
Articles, pillar guides and calculator documentation are produced by the BankDeMark editorial team and published under the BankDeMark organisational byline rather than an individual one. We do not attribute articles to invented authors, and we do not claim professional designations, licences or credentials that the team does not hold.
Where a topic genuinely requires a licensed professional — filing a tax return, structuring a corporation, negotiating a consumer proposal, choosing a specific security — the correct answer is to say so and point the reader to the relevant regulator or professional, not to write around the gap.
Sourcing rules
Every factual, statistical, legal or tax claim must be traceable to a source. In practice that means:
- Primary sources take precedence. For Canadian tax and account rules we cite the Canada Revenue Agency, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, the Bank of Canada, or Statistics Canada rather than a secondary summary of them.
- Jurisdiction is stated, never blurred. Canadian and United States rules on credit scoring, registered accounts and consumer protection differ materially. A figure that applies in one country is labelled as such rather than presented as universal.
- Figures that expire carry a date. Contribution limits, tax brackets and rate-linked numbers change annually. Where we publish one, we say which year it applies to and link the authority that sets it.
- Unverified claims are not published. Drafts that still contain an unresolved source placeholder are held back from the index automatically by the publishing pipeline rather than shipped with a plausible-sounding number attached.
- No fabricated statistics. If a number cannot be traced to a real source, the sentence is rewritten to describe the mechanism instead of asserting a figure.
How products are discussed
BankDeMark does not publish “best card” or “best account” rankings. Where a product category is discussed, we describe the criteria a reader can apply — fee structure, rate mechanics, eligibility, trade-offs — and leave the selection to the reader and, where appropriate, a licensed professional. Named products appear only as illustrative examples of a category, never as a recommendation.
Calculators and modelling assumptions
Calculators are deterministic arithmetic models, not forecasts. Each one states the assumptions it makes, the inputs it ignores, and the limits of what its output means. Projections assume a constant rate of return, which no real market delivers; results are a way to compare scenarios against each other, not a prediction of any single outcome.
Where a calculator references a statutory limit, that limit is stored in a dated, sourced data file so it can be reviewed and updated when the authority changes it — not hard-coded into a page where it can quietly go stale.
Review cadence
Content covering rules that change annually — contribution limits, tax treatment, credit reporting practice — is scheduled for review at least once per calendar year and after any change we become aware of. Every article carries a published date, and a last-updated date when it has been revised. If a page shows no updated date, it has not been revised since publication.
Corrections policy
If something here is wrong, we want to fix it. Report an error through the contact page with the page URL and the specific claim in question.
- Factual errors are corrected on the page and the last-updated date is advanced.
- Material corrections— a change that would alter a reader’s decision — are noted in the article itself rather than made silently.
- Outdated figures are updated against the issuing authority, or removed if no current authoritative figure exists.
